Does hot (spicy) soup help if you're sick?!

Question: I've seen a couple times in tv, that when a person is sick, they cook them hot (spicy) soup and after eating it, they feel better. I was wondering if that actually works, or is it just a made up thing?

Spices especially peppers contains chemicals called Capsaicinoids that give rise to the heat of chillies. These chemicals produce endorphins (the neurotransmitters produced in the body that are natural pain killers) and they make you feel happy and pain free....so a little bit hot soup give you some relief from the pain during sickness.

You can also add spices like fresh basil (cold, sore throat), mint(cold), thyme, rosemary, cumin (pain relief) that have many medicinal properties. Spices in a proper proportions are very healthy and beneficial.

I guess this is the reason why people in India add different combinations of spices in their food. Spices makes the food tasty, flavors it and have lots of medicinal values.

hmm sounds like it could. cause even when im not sick when i eat really spicy stuff my sinuses get really clear, and i sweat.

so maybe it helps by ridding your body of waste?

This works really well for clogged sinuses and colds but isn't a good idea if you have stomach flu. Clear liquids are best when battling viral tummy bugs. Remember BRAT - Bannanas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. That's what's good for tummy troubles.

Hot spicy soup would help a cold, as does homemade chicken soup.

if you have a cold, then the spicy soup will clear out your sinus's. I have had this bad cough for 6 days now and today I made potato soup for supper and it helped my nose but not my cough. I think it is mostly a comfort thing. But if you have a cold anything spicy will help that out!

It would help a stopped up your nose/head, but it would upset your stomach if you're sick to the stomach already.

it depends wat u kind of spicy soup?

If youre congested spicy food helps make all of the snot and mucus drain out of your head.

yes,it makes you sweat especially if you have flu or a cold, makes your nose run so your not blocked up and stuffy.
