Shrimp Frozen thawed & Frozen Again, is it ok?!

Question: A friend of mine who stayed with me bought some pre cooked shrimp, thawed it out & refroze it. I've always been told you don't re freeze things. But it was pre cooked, is it safe to eat?

no way throw them away you will be really ill

Depends on how long the shrimp were thawed for. If they remained pretty cold and weren't thawed for very long, bacteria probably didn't have time to propagate. Might affect taste and texture, but if you're working with precooked shrimp, probably not the biggest issue.

Sure it's safe, might be a little tough though. Make shrimp chowder. Just Google "shrimp chowder recipe" if you don't have one already

Shrimps aren't the things that you really should re-freeze. It is a matter of taste from the shrimps and texture. You should really just make something out of them.

some food can stay in the freezer and the food lasts longer some food cant..

Shrimp that has been refroze is either cat food or fishbait, not fit for human consumption unless you want some rather nasty bacteria introduced into your intestines. Diarhea food that would be. Freezing does not kill bacteria. While it may retard the process, seafood goes bad quicker than most foods and that is why it has such a strong odor. If it smells fishy,It is!

If they are cooked, they're fine, but might taste a bit mealy. Don't the people who answer these read the questions?

All shrimp that come from Thailand or whereever are frozen for shipment. If you ever buy something with cooked shrimp in it, it's probably already been thawed and frowzen once.

Cold does not kill bacteria (that is why biological samples are frozen).
Heat destroys bacteria that is why things are sterilised using high temperatures.

This is based upon the shrimp being kept cool i.e refrigerated. When you come to eat the shrimp make sure you defrost them in the fridge then cook them at a high temperature. This should kill any bacteria present.

If the shrimp were left out at room temperature prior to freezing then throw them away and do not take the risk.
