If tomatoes is a fruit, Is ketchup fruit juice?!

Question: Yes tomatoes are a fruit. And no, ketchup is not fruit juice. This is because its not juice. Tomato juice is fruit juice.

The term "VEGETABLE" is not a botanical term. It is a culinary term. Botanists classify tomatoes as a fruit. However, culinary professionals classify it as a vegetable.

Ketchup, then, is a "Fruit Paste".

Yea, I guess that would make sense! Or, at least, fruit spread.

no, it would be a paste

more like fruit sauce?
since its thicK

no, its a sauce and it has spices

Lol. That's fabulous. never thought of it that way... ew fruit juice on hot dogs heheh

ps. in Australia we dont call it ketchup - we call it tomato sauce.

oooh! good question. i guess so, that sounds kinda weird to say though.

when ronald reagan was president the government declared that ketchup could be considered a vegtable for school lunch programs.
sorry johnny no peas or carrots for you today your getting ketchup

No, it suppose it would be a fruit topping....

In the 80s president Reagan declared ketchup a vegetable for school lunches!

no, its a condiment

GOOD QUESTION!!!??? Hmm....ketchep would not be a fruit juice but, it may be considered a fruit spread but it does not contain the sugars that jelly/jam does. It is an interesting question. I dont think there is really an answer. its like one of those questions - do you spell ketchup - ketchup or catsup??????

No - it is processed and sugar and other stuff added- you get Tomatoe Juice when you squezze a tomatoe into a glass.

No.

Botanically speaking, a tomato is a fruit */c it grows after a flower is fertizlied by bees.

But nutritinoally speaking, a tomato is a vegetable */c it is super-low in fructose.

No, whereas it is biologically a fruit, the tomato is a vegetable in common culinary usage.

I still like thinking of tomatoes as vegetables... it just seems so weird for it to be a fruit

great question...
clever thinking....
but i guess it is cooked and all spices r added to it, it is called sauce....

No silly - ketchup is a pickle made from fruit. It has sugar, vinegar, spices, etc., etc. Actually chutney is a type of ketchup made from mangos. There are other types as well. HP sauce is actually a type of ketchup.
