Why is it called 3 square meals a day when a square has 4 sides?!

Question: why not 3 triangulated meals or 3 pyramidal meals a day?

Answers: why not 3 triangulated meals or 3 pyramidal meals a day?

I think because you should eat at least one serving from 4 of the basic food groups at every meal. Hello level 3!!

be there or be square

You should have 3 meals, each consisting of at least 4 food groups.

seriously i dunno haha yeah its confusing to most of us try googling it?

I think it has something to do with the shape of the plate it was served on being square.

Because each meal is supposed to have 1 serving from each of the 4 food groups. (There is your square) You are supposed to eat one square meal 3 times a day.

The squares probably refer to the serving trays you used to get in a mess / chow hall or in a prison cafeteria. The meals are 3 = b.fast, lunch and dinner.... all carried away to your table on a tray.

PS - I know the trays are rectangular....
