What are those little white crumb/seed things on english muffins?!
Answers: probably a dumb question, but i'm curious. on the bottom of english muffins are a bunch of tiny seeds or something.. anyone know what they are specifically? : P
one louder is right - it's cornmeal. It's to prevent it sticking to the pan. They choose it over flour because it does a better job at making it not stick. Some people use cornmeal/ground corn/polenta on a pizza paddle before sliding it in to the oven too.
POPPY SEEDS
It is just left over flour bits from the baking.
poppy seeds
The answer to that is corn dust from corn meal.
P.S. no such thing as a dumb question.
its corn meal. it keeps the english muffin from sticking to the pan when baking.
I always thought they were poppy seeds - reminds me of that Seinfeld episode :)
Poppy seeds are actually black and the white seeds on muffins are sesame seeds.
They are put on a floured pan to prevent sticking.
Its corn dust, kinda similar to a realyy fine grain polenta, its not sesame or poppy seeds, they're bigger and poppy seeds are black.
