When I was a child my parents frequently bought fresh coconuts for us. My Father first drilled a couple holes in it to drain the coconut milk from it. The milk is good for you but isn't very tasty. My Mother then used a boning knife, a long, slender, sturdy knife used for boning fish, to cut and wedge out about 1/2 inch cubes of the coconut meat. We, the children, stood around waiting for this delicious treat to be given to us to eat.

I am sure you could grate it or smash it but we never did. We just ate it straight.

Take care when digging the meat out with the knife. My younger brother, at the age of about 13, took it upon himself to use the knife with the coconut and proceeded to "stab" himself in the hand, severing an artery. There was blood all over the house. Maybe he learned to listen when his parents told him not to do it by himself???

Well, anyway, it's not difficult to get to the meat of a coconut and it is quite satisfying and tasty.

Good Luck ... Enjoy

try google: "how eat coconut"

grate the meat or chop it bitesized.

smash it into smaller pieces....fresh coconut is so good!

There is probably an easier way but the only way I've been able to do it is using a very sharp serrated knife to cut out pieces of the inside white 'meat'. I've read that you're supposed to be able to peel it out but I never could. It can be pretty tough...good luck!

Take a knife and cut pieces out and chew........it's kinda of crisp!

With your teeth, silly!
