In the U.S., do you call cookies biscuits sometimes, or they are completely different things?!

Question: I never call cookies biscuits. Biscuits are rolls that go with dinner and cookies are snacks that often have chocolate chips in them. So to me, they are completely different things.

completely different.

cookies are sweet.

biscuits can be a little sweet but usually just taste like bread

Cookies are sweet and a desert item.
Biscuts are bread like and served hot/toasted with dinner.
Rolls are bread like and served cold with dinner.

Two different items

biscuits are made with flour, baking powder, milk, shortening, and a bit of salt. They are generally served with butter and jam or with white gravy which is usually made with bacon grease or with sausage. Biscuits are normally served with breakfast, but also sometimes with dinners such as with fried chicken, mashed potatos and gravy.

Cookies are made with flour, sugars, butter, eggs, baking soda, sometimes also baking powder, a bit of salt. Cookies are more of a treat/sweet.

completely different. i know in england and some other places the words are interchangeable, but here a biscuit is kinda like bread but saltier and buttery.

Some foreigners tend to call cookies biscuits. But to most Americans, biscuits are bread, cookies are hard.

Completely different and I've lived in both the UK and US.

Cookies (US) are similar to soft biscuits (UK). Even within the UK, not all cookies are called biscuits. Biscuits (UK), are often harder and crunchier than cookies (US).

Biscuits (US) are almost like scones (UK), but used as a bread alternative and are savoury. They are rarely used as
the British do with say, jams, butters, clotted cream.

Scones (US) are again another different thing - they are more substantial, dryer and harder than British scones, which are smallish, light and fluffy. A similar American version of a British scone would be a shortcake (US). However, a shortcake (UK) is sometimes known as shortbread, a buttery biscuit (UK).

I hope that this is somewhat clear, or maybe it's just plain confusing????
