Do ACT/SAT scores matter if you want to get into culinary school?!

Question: Only if it affiliated with an accredited university.

Answers: Only if it affiliated with an accredited university.

Depends on which type of culinary school. My husband only has a GED and went to culinary school, never took the ACT or SAT. I suppose a place like the Culinary Institute of America might want to see scores, but really those tests only prove book-learning, not working aptitude. I suggest taking one of the tests anyway just in case the place you want to work at requires it with the application.

It may come into play if the academic studys courses need a certain grade point or knowledge level.

Here in Canada our trades or apprenticeship requirements in most provinces now require at least Grade 12, but when I was training in the 1970's an apprentice only needed Grade 10 and be at least 16 years of age.

I took a refresher course for Culinary Managment in 1987 (6 year after writing my Chefs Papers) to upgrade my personnel skills, I had no basic computer skills or knowledge of them, when I was in school back in the 1970's, we were told 2 things keep the food cost below 30% and labour cost below 25%, and we worked everything out on a piece of paper or with a calculator, I would say in the U.S if you going to persue a life as a chef you should have no lower than a Grade 11 Math and English competency and some computer knowledge and be able to do some simple Geometery. I was a chef here in Canada and in Singapore Tokyo Japan, and Montego Bay Jamaica for over 20+ years, you never stop learning in all your years of work, just make sure you prepare in the beginning first and foremost.
