Can I do this with Tofu?!
Answers: Slice and simmer in some beef broth, drain, then sauté with a little olive oil to brown it. Would this work as a replacement for beef?
it would be tasty try adding some different seasonings too.
Tofu Turkey (Toferky)is really good if prepared correctly
Another thing to try is gluten it is a wonderful meat substitute.
YESSSSSSS UMMMMMM THAT WOULD BE GOOOD!!!!
PLEASE GIVE ME A 10
I'm worried to get the flavor you're looking for you'd have to simmer it for a very long time, and that might make it too mooshy.
If you're looking for a beef replacement morning star farms makes strips that would probably be way closer than this...
Tofu soaks up liquid like a sponge, and it absorbs the flavors of foods you cook it with. However, you're going to want something more exciting than beef-flavored tofu, aren't you? And if you're feeding vegetarians, it wouldn't be suitable for them. And however you cook your tofu, I recommend you freeze it for at least 24 hours (you can store tofu in the freezer) and press really well.
Unless you are a culinary expert or have all sorts of flavor enhancers at hand, you're best not trying to make tofu mimic any meat and just enjoy it for what it is.
Seitan (a.k.a. "wheat meat"), on the other hand, is a little easier. Sarah Kramer's "La Dolce Vegan" has a recipe for "beef"-flavored seitan. There are also vegetarian broths that approximate beef and chicken. Seitan has a chewier texture than tofu and in my humble opinion works better as a substitute.
If meat is what (or beef) you are trying to get away from then,no,no beef broth,I love tofu have eaten it my whole life,I eat poultry, seafood @ times,I can not stand beef! I have a few dishes for tofu, real easy.I find that cooking it on the stove, just gets it mooshy. So I cube it,and pour soy sauce in a bowl and throw it in the microwave,it cooks enough to absorb the ingred. yet not make it mooshy. Also,I make a marinade with diff. ingred.I pour it over pasta,or rice, with sauted vegies. It is very good.
