Why is Pink Salmon cheaper than Red Salmon?!
Answers: Is there a difference in taste or not?
I've often wondered this myself. To me, there is no difference in taste and therefore I buy pink.
Don't know but I have two tins of red salmon in the cupboard, it must have been on offer.
red salmon is more uncommon, there is less so they sell it fr more maybe?
Not much difference in taste, Pink and Chum salmon are more plentiful, and the better red or sockeye salmon is more reserved for fresh or restaurant service, even the farm salmon which is on the east coast the atlantic variety and on the west coat a pacific variety is better.
I use the pink for a salmon loaf or patties from the same mixture, it is a criminal to use the better red sockeye, and the cost is a factor to.
As far as I know, Red Salmon are extremely difficult and expensive to breed.
Boy! Do i feel uneducated. never heard of red salmon. and I grew up in the pacific north west!! (Salmon runs in the river just blocks from my first job). I know that Atlantic salmon tastes completely different than Pacific North west (washington) king salmon.
is coz one is pink and the other is red;-D
Because red salmon is more popular (for no objective reason) so they can charge more for it. In taste tests, people couldn't tell them apart. I know someone who swears they can taste the difference but I can't.
I'll bet the cheaper one is farmed and the more expensive one is wild. Or has added coloring?
