What foods were popular in the south during the 1930s?!
Answers: And how do they differ from foods in the Midwest today--is it any different?
ill tell you about the south in the 1930's, but you have to do the rest of the homework yourself, as i am not from the midwest.
southern food in the early 1900's- lots of greens, grits, pork, chitlins, beans..
a lot of food was pretty much anything we could round up.. examples-
possum stew
cooter (turtle) stew
fried turtle
rabbit
lots of root veggies
pork and beef covered in spices, and cooked for long hours- ---- BBQ
corn, and things made from corn- like grits and hominy, and cornbread
rice
okra
pigs feet
fish-- usually fried
cabbage
pecans
peaches
peanuts
shrimp
crab
all of these foods and/or ingredients are common in the southern humid u.s., they grow easily or were readily available and easy to cook while southerners were hard at work all day long.
My father and mother were in Nebraska during hard times and my mom said they survived on popcorn. My dad worked at an alfalfa mill. They had to travel to make money to eat and get by on.
