I ate beef from my work cafeteria (forgot not to bc of the recall). What should I do?!

Question: I believe the recall was punitive and/or precautionary----there is fear of an outbreak of "Mad Cow" disease that was observed in Britiain when cattle would loose their footing.

In this instance it was not at all clear why these cattle were incapable of standing on their own--was it disease, fatigue, injury, or MAD COW DISEASE ? Protocal and law required the operators to have the animal inspected by a vetrinarian immediately and even to stop the production line to do so. Slaughter house operators did not want the plant to shut down and have to pay the workers,electricity,etc.,etc. and have no product going out the door to pay for those costs, so for them it was cheaper to just screw the public and allow every animal to pass through by shuffling the sick ones through when inspectors were busy elsewhere !

The result is that instead of weeding out a few sick aminals for further testing(delay) and eliminating them from production the government issues a recall for all meat produced there during the period in question---ie it was not determined to be bad but only had the suspicion of being bad !

So the chances of you getting sick are miniscule, besides once it has been eaten there is nothing that can be done for you if it is contaminated. So, don't worry the odds are highest in your favor. If no cases appear anywhere among Americans you can assume you are safe. This is of course presuming that the beef you ate was part of the recall batches.

Nothing. That beef has been already recalled.

wait...

What's wrong? Do you feel sick? Do you have reason to think the beef there was some of the tainted stuff but was missed in the recall? If you feel sick, call your doctor.

if you start feeling sick call your doctor, if they are selling it it should be ok or they can get in HUGE trouble for selling bad beef!!

Plus, most of it was sold to school cafeterias and already consumed. The kids didn't get sick so I wouldn't be too concerned.

klb is 100 % correct.
