Which type of coffee maker?!
I was thinking of getting him a coffee maker for his birthday, but as I'm not a coffee drinker myself, I am somewhat clueless.
I saw filter coffee machines in Argos. Are these good for making coffee or would I be better with the cafitierre?
Answers: My dad is a lover of Nescafe, and we used to have a cafitierre to make coffee which he also really enjoyed.

I believe a cafitierre is what we call a French press. If so, I think they make the best coffee by far!
I have got a Tassimo machine - I love it. You can make lots of different types of coffee and it barely needs any cleaning because the only things that actually goes through the system is the hot water.

You can spend a wide range on coffee makers. But I have to tell you about something that is inexpensive that is great for a coffee lover.
It is really simple. "Melita" makes it. It is a plastic piece that looks like a funnel. You put a #2 Melita paper filter in it. Then put fresh ground coffee in the bottom of the filter. Place that over the coffee cup... then I super heat (microwave) water (to a boil) and pour that over the ground coffee. The water seeps through and makes a perfect fast cup of drip coffee. You can take it anywhere.... and it just rinses out quickly. It is so clever! You can enjoy a cup of coffee anywhere you can boil water and find a styrofoam cup. Whatever you buy...get that too!
If he loves nescafe, you could get him a Dolce Gusta coffee maker. It takes nescafe pods for individual cups. i dont have one, but I think they are good!
zippy
I have Four Coffee Makers and they are all good but the one that I like best is A Russell Hobs Percolator. It Holds up to 12 Cups of Coffee and it is mostly made of Steel save for the Plastic Bottom and the Glass Percolator on top so less Parts to Break. You Measure out the Water you need , I use a Plastic Jug but there are Graduations on a Gauge on the Pot but I find the Jug Easier 400 Ml for Two Cups and Pour this into your Pot. Then put your Metal Receptacle on the Spindle and Pour the Loose Ground Coffee ,One Level Tablespoon per Cup,I have a Special Coffee Measuring Spoon into the Receptacle and put the Lid on. Plug it into the Mains, there is no on off Switch, and the Coffee will begin to Percolate and make Funny Noises, after a few Minutes Coffee is Made when Orange Light comes on at the Bottom of Coffee Pot. I use Tesco French Ground Coffee as it is the Cheapest and it makes Wonderful Coffee. It is a Simple Coffee Maker and you dont have to Buy Filter Papers like the DE Longhi Coffee Maker that I have.
I've used many different coffee makers and my favourite of the moment was from Whittards - it's a home electric espresso pot - on offer at the mo - usually £40 but it's now £29. It's so easy and quick. They are based on the Italian espresso makers that you put on top of the stove but they are quicker. You could buy some ground coffee from Whittards to go with it and complete the present - try their Guatemala Elephant beans - they are really tasty but not bitter at all.
