Expiration date on Meat??!
So I never know if I can keep it thawed and it's fine to eat, just so that it's before the expiration date or if I need to actually freeze it even though sometimes it has up to two more weeks before it expires. What do you do?
Answers: Whenever I buy chicken at the grocery store, the package says the expiration date on the top, usually about a week or so from when I buy it. But right below it always says "use or freeze within 48 hours of purchase".

It will last about 4-5 days in fridge normally when you get it from grocery store but to be safe if your not going to use it just pop it into the freezer, then take it out a day before you plan on using it to thaw. Even when it says sold by date thats the "sell by date" you can still eat the meat after this date and if you freeze it, your meat will last a very very long time. You can do this with bread as well
Use common sense. Those dates are just guideline dates. The food isn't going to turn poisonous after that date.
If I'm not using the chicken that day or the following day, I always freeze it
Expiration date on on foods must be there by law,
They say consume withing 48 hours as all refrigerators and people can store improperly.
And the stores are more likely to store correctly until the expiration date.
I buy 5 nights of food a week
The one with the closest expiration date get used 1st
and then the second closest etc...
If you're not going to use it in 48 hours from the time you purchase it, freeze it! It's not worth losing your money on spoiled meat. That's two days and by then you should have used it for something, if not freeze. I always buy two weeks worth of meat each payday, but I only leave out what I will use in the next day or two, or it WILL spoil. I freeze the rest, plan ahead when I want it ,and defrost on my counter or in the microwave.
