Can't say exactly, but I do recall from a nutrition course I took that veggies rich in color (like orange in yams, carrots) are supposed to mean good vitamin value.

Produce is good for you. Unless you cook it using a lot of butter or other fat.

I looked on an on-line recipe analyzer:

Cooked Yams (Boiled, baked or steamed without salt)
Serving size 136g

Total fat 0g
Saturated fat 0g
Cholesterol 0g
Sodium 11 mg
Total carbohydrates 37g

Yams are low in saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium. They are a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, Potassium and Manganese

they're a veggie
fiber
vitamin a
good for your entire body.

Yams/Sweet Potatoes are one of nature's nutrition powerhouses! They are chock full of vitamin A, beta-carotene, B-vitamins, and fiber! They are excellent prepared sweet or savory, can be made into desserts, side dishes, or eaten as an entree, and will fill you up faster (so you eat less). They are a bit higher in calories than a regular baking potato, but for the mega-nutrition you get, the calories are well-spent!!

just don't cover them with syrup or sugar and marshmallows and crap

I <3 Sweet Potatoes!

PS: They are veggies, they are good for you.

Don't listen to people who tell you not to put stuff on them. Sometimes people won't eat broccoli. But if you compromise a little bit and put a small amount of cheese on it, they eat it. But if you like Yams/SP just by themselves, then just eat them by themselves.
