Why doesnt turkey bacon taste like turkey?!

Question: heck, it doesnt really taste like bacon either.

Answers: heck, it doesnt really taste like bacon either.

I used to get Turkey Sausages in jail every Sunday with my powdered scrambled eggs. I had no clue that they were made of turkey until thanksgiving, when we also got them for breakfast, and were told by a C.O. that they were made of Turkey, and therefore a grand Thanksgiving feast.

That's just how it is going to be.
It's not bacon, so it shouldn't taste too much like bacon, if you know what I mean.

I do agree that it doesn't take like turkey.
Atleast it isn't like, llama bacon.

Because of the spices, chemicals and fat added to it and usually smoke flavoring or actually being smoked.

I don't like it at all... you are right...doesn't look or taste like real bacon.

I prefer not to substitute beef or pork with turkey unless it's for a saucy dish. Things like turkey bacon and turkey sausage and turkey burgers tend to not have the same taste as the pork or beef and takes some getting used to.

I would recommend using turkey in some instances where you are making a dish with sauce however. Using ground turkey instead of ground beef for spaghetti or hamburger helper typically doesn't take much away from the flavor in my opinion.

that's like asking why everything tastes like chicken
