I have a great idea that companies will never use, what do you think..?!
The problem, however, is that the companies really wouldn't want these markings, it would have an adverse affect on sales. People would be concious of how much they are eating. Instead of eating the whole pint, or half of it at a time, they might just limit themselves to one serving and therefore eat less.
So, what do you think? Would you like to see something like this?
Answers: I was eating some Haagen-Dazs last night and came up with a brilliant idea. Your typical pint of Haagen-Daaz or Ben & Jerry's or whatever has nutritional info on the back but there is usually more than 1 serving, I think that most pints have 4 servings per container. My idea is to put little lines or marking of some kind on the inside of the container showing you when you have eaten 1 serving.

You might be able to convince a company to use it as a sales tool. If they think something will increase sales, they're usually willing to try it. The problem would be with patenting your idea. If you're in the U.S., you can explore the patent office website to see if someone else has already had the idea. If not, then apply for a "provisional patent." This will cost you around $100 and will protect you from someone stealing your idea.
Stars to you! You have them figured out. After it is a free market economy...they don't twist your arm and make your mouth fly open to get that next spoonful...LOL
I like the idea. Even if the companies don't like it can be a requirement. It's not like people are going to stop buying, they will just be more aware, like you mentioned.
you mean one package isn't one serving?? While the idea is sound the food companies would never do it becuase you'd eat less and then buy less.
I don't think i'd really use it. Its a good idea for those who are weight concious, but otherwise i'll eat as much or as little ice cream as I like regarless of where the line is.
Actually this is a great idea. especially for people who count their calories. they would not have to guesstimate.
I sincerely doubt your idea would fly at the companies you mentioned, however, a company like Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers that package their own food might LOVE an idea like that. Better patent it before someone else does!
Okay, I know this isn't going to get the best answer. I don't like your idea. People in this country need to be more conscious of what they eat, that's true. Lines on an ice cream carton put the responsibility on someone else to be conscious of how much I eat. It puts more artificial colors into the paper that surrounds my food. I don't like that idea.
I think if people read the labels and really understood what those calories mean, they would become more conscious of what they put in their mouths. Spoon feeding people artificial portion control will not change their attitudes about food. I love ice cream, but I know that a snack sized portion of Ben & Jerry's is actually half of what's listed on the label as a portion. It took some work, but now I'm used to eating two or three bites of really good ice cream to finish a wonderful meal. Lines on the carton would have been no help for me in learning my personal portion control. People need to internalize these things and not depend on external measures.
that a great idea
