A club or a burger??!

Question: just wondering comparing between a 5-7 oz hickory burger (all the ingredient, ketchup, mustard) and a club (turkey, swiss cheese, ham..the usual club ingredients) which has more calories, more fat? generally more healthy?

pfft. Who cares? If you want healthy scoop the pit out of an avocado and throw some tuna in. What you should really be intersted in is which is better.

But if you must compare, I would do so subtractivly. First, lets assume relativly equal amounts in terms of meat, bread and cheeze. Then we only have to compare meat and condoments.

Mayo is about 10 grams of fat per table spoon. Not even will have more than a half tablespoon at a time(except for those rare, quiet moments when I fix myself a glass of mayonase). Since ketchup and mustard are almost calorie free, this puts the club ahead.

As for meats, things get a little bit trickier. All meats are just fat and protein, and since fat is almost 3 times as calorically dense(God bless it) than protein, the one with more fat will be higher calories. The burger is easy, it's going to be about 20% fat. So a 5 oz burger will have 1 oz of fat.

But the club has 2 meats, with very different fat contents that can be mixed in very different proportions. The turkey is going to be 1 to 5 percent fat, but the bacon will be about 50%. But 2 strips of bacon(very average for a club) is less than an ounce of meat which gives you a fat content of about a half ounce.

So the club has lower fat and calories, all things being equal.

But again I say who cares? The real question is which will taste better? And that comes down to 1 thing.

How fresh is your tomato? If you can find a good local farmers market and tomatoes are in season that club is going to kick ***. If all you can get a hold of are the typical grocery store cardboard/vegtable hybrids then I would stick with the burger.

i like a club sandwich better. i think they are both fine as long as you don't overdo it.

I would guess that the Club has more fat and probably more sodium. Lunch meats, cheese, bacon and mayo would make the Club higher in fat and calories.

Depends on the size. If the club is really big, then the burger is the better choice. If the club is small I would choose that since it has better nutrients. (ketchup is mainly sugar, although it's darn yummy) In my opinion the club sounds delicious! :P

I'm a burger freak
