Can I eat ground barley like a cereal?!

Question: I have been looking in my store for bread or cereal made of barley, but all they sell is ground barley for making bread. Do you think I could eat this with some water like cream of wheat, or would that taste really bad or be way too much fiber to try?

Any other suggestions as to where I can get cereal or bread made only of barley?

Thanks!

I found a hot cereal made exclusively with barley grits. Here is the link:http://www.bobsredmill.com/catalog/index...

I don't see any problem with eating ground barley as a breakfast cereal. In fact, any grain is okay to eat as a breakfast cereal, even rice! However, I particularly like the 7-grain cereal mix from Bob's Red Mill and I also love oatmeal. Also, I don't believe that the fiber in the barley would be a problem. Barley doesn't have much more fiber than other whole grain cereals.

You should be able to buy whole pearl barley. It can be found usually in the cereal aisle. It is put in many homemade soups so should be readily available. If you can't find it ask your grocer to carry it. Incidentally I wouldn't eat the flour like cream of wheat because it would be really gross. Also I don't know why you are limiting yourself to barley. Millet is wonderful boiled with a little lemon zest and cinnamon. Also brown rice is good as a breakfast cereal. If you are trying to increase your fiber, then opt for whole, unprocessed grains like brown rice.
