Does eating burnt food really cause cancer?!

Question: I like my steaks with a nice black crispy layer on the outside, but someone told me that burnt meat is a carcinogen. Is that true?

I have heard that wherever there is burnt-ness, as in, char, or charcoal, or burnt, that it IS carcinogenic and we should avoid it or eat it only rarely.

I know, it is my favorite way to eat meat, too :)

Yes. Any burnt food is carcinogenic. It contains free radicals which create cancer. Studies have been done on the subject.

If you eat blackened steaks often, it's not healthy. That black part is carcinogens... and unless it's something you don't have often, over time it could put you at risk for getting cancer.

Supposedly, but the question is more like, what DOESN't cause cancer.
