Where did the first chicken come from if it didn't hatch from an egg?!? Just think about it for a minute. If you believe in evolution, then the egg had to come first. A bird did not magically turn into a chicken. When the egg from the previous bird species was fertilized, it contained the new mix of genetic material that was now what we call a chicken!

This question is bound to go all over the place with both sides, but there was a section in Harry Potter that struck me which asked the same question only dealing with a phoenix, the answer was "A circle has no beginning," which really does pertain to this question. Whichever way you look at it, neither could have existed without the first one to make it exist.
