That all depends on how long it will be before they are all eaten. If it will be within 36 to 48 hours, it will be ok to leave them out. If it will be longer, I would put them in the fridge covered with a loose plastic wrap. Then, when you want to eat one or more, place them in the micro for 15 - 30 seconds ( depending on your microwave's power ).
It sounds to me like you have a very nice neighbor. What can you do to help her out??

Place on the counter in a plastic bowl with a lid.

It doesn't have to go in the fridge; you can keep it wrapped and put it on the counter. But you need to eat it within a day or two otherwise you can wrap it tightly and put it in the freezer. Don't waste a great gift especially if it was homemade.

just leave them on the counter is fine i some times like my muffins chilled but they last longer on the counter

I would wrap it in wax paper or put it in a container with wax paper to keep it from sticking together.

i love muffins!
but not when they're cold!

If your place is cool, then maybe you can leave them out. But, it is best to keep them in the refrigerator. If you want to, you can always put them in the microwave, and heat them some.

eat em, take em to work, share with a friend, they shouldn't last long enough to worry about storage then.

leave them.

Leave the muffins on the counter but keep them covered. If they get dried out, put a slice of bread or two in with the muffins to soften them back up. You can also use a raw potato cut up it will make them soft too.

Whack it in the fridge, if you leave it out that soft muffin will get hard and kind of crumbly which doesn't taste anywhere near as good as the soft muffins.
