Is there a difference in grated and shredded?!

Grated is in small chunks while shredded is long, flat, and narrow.

If you look at both pictures of the graters, the small holes are for grating, and the big holes are for shredding. There should be tiny holes on the other side for fine grating, and big grooves in the back for fine slicing.

sometimes you shred a roast or chicken and when you grate you do it on a grater I think I would take shred to mean pull apart.

Grating is generally long skinny pieces of cheese made by a grater, whilst shredding is thinner, yet wider pieces that is generally made with the use of a peeler or special shredding grater...
