What it is, is a two slices of bread with cheese in the middle. And u put butter on the outside of the sandwich and u grill it in a fry pan until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown

I think it's like cheese on toast but I could be wrong as I'm English!

Many people just melt sliced cheese unto bread.

BUT, the realy way it was supposed to be made was by raw cheese, they just took a big chunk of uncut cheese and placed it between breads.

im american aand it is american cheddar cheese slices on slices of bread that's been grilled.

its pretty much a slice of cheese between two slices of bread and then they are grilled on both sides. i use american cheese and white bread, butter both sides of bread then put em on the pan till each side is crispy and brown and the cheese in the middle is melted.

It is basically making a cheese sandwich. You cook it in a pan on the stove to melt the cheese and heat the bread.

You butter one or both sides of the bread. Slap a piece or two of cheese(any type)between and put it in a frying pan until it browns on both sides.
Hope it helped...

you need two slices of toast and one slice of these horrible processed cheese slices and maybe some of the even worse spreadable cheese in a glass.
butter your bread ON THE OUTSIDE put the cheese in the middle and fry it in a frying pan

its cheese on toast

2 slices of bread cheese in the middle heat a skillet add butter and brown on each side melty cheese in between

good w/ tomatoe soup

A grilled cheese sandwich, is a form of toasted sandwich that consists of two slices of bread, usually buttered, and cheese melted in between.

In the United States, it is most common for the assembled sandwich to be buttered on the outside and placed on a griddle, pan, cast iron skillet, or rarely, in a dedicated sandwich maker to be heated (technically, the word 'grilled' in the name of the meal is inaccurate). Once the bread on the bottom half of the sandwich has reached a toast-like texture, the sandwich is flipped and continues cooking until the other side has toasted and the cheese has melted.

I use American Cheese. It is traditionally accompanied by tomato soup.

greetings from michigan!

this is how i make a grilled cheese...

take two slices of bread and butter the outside of each slice of bread. put a small pan on the stove over medium heat. put the bread on the hot pan w/ a slice of american cheese in between the slices of bread. grill until it becomes a nice golden brown.

i use yellow american cheese for my grilled cheese sandwiches

take a piece of bread, butter it (butter side faces down), then put on a piece of cheese, put another piece of bread, butter it (butter side faces up), then fry the bread in the skillet til golden brown and you've got yourself a grilled cheese

i don't think soft cheeses will work very well for a grilled cheese

cheddar is the best for this not american!

its just a name it means a piece or two of cheese that melts such as jack, cheddar, swiss, or american cheese placed between two slices of bread and then lightly toasted on both in a little bit of oilive oil or butter until the bread is golden and toasted.

The above answers are correct, but if you can't tolerate the gummy, tasteless processsed American cheese product that unfortunately passes for "American cheese", then I HIGHLY recommend that you make it with a mixture of grated sharp cheddar, gruyere, and perhaps a monterrey jack. Anything is better than the glop they call American cheese.

And I'm an American, by the way. :-)

I was wondering. These cheese dream sammiches. Did you dip them in egg whites? or whole eggs including yolk? did you beat the egg before dipping?

I am dying to try this!

It's just good old cheese on toast. Although the american name sounds wrong when i think about it (not insulting americans). Whe i think of the name grillied cheese it makes me think of my dad putting slices of halloumi cheese on the barbeque

Has any one ever had halloumi cheese? SOOOOOO TASTY!!

Basically it is American Cheese on 2 slices of bread. Put butter on it and put in the frying pan. Make sure the cheese is melted. Don't let it burn, it should be a golden color
