What is the difference between using garlic salt and garlic powder?!

Question: can you substitute one another?

Answers: can you substitute one another?

Garlic salt is garlic powder with salt added. It's fine to substitute then for each other, but if you use garlic powder in a recipe calling for garlic salt, you may need to add a bit more salt. If you use garlic salt in a recipe calling for garlic powder, reduce the amount of salt you use.

It's garlic powder with salt added. If you substitute powder for salt, use less regular salt than the recipe calls for.

Garlic salt is a mixture of garlic powder and salt. So if you substitute you need to adjust the rest of the salt in the recipe. If the recipe calls for a teaspoon of garlic salt, I would add a 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and then taste and adjust. If I were substituting garlic salt for garlic powder I would omit any other salt called for in the recipe, and add the salt amount of garlic salt, and then taste.

Garlic powder is just the seasoning, but Garlic Salt is the flavor of Garlic with added salt. They both add flavor of garlic but watch how much Garlic salt you add to recipes...In most recipes I use a little of both...garlic powder to add the flavor and garlic salt to sub for regular salt and increase the garlic flavor. If you have garlic powder but want garlic salt, just mix it with a 3:1 ratio (1 teaspoon salt to 1 tablespoon garlic powder).

The difference really is the salt. If your making something that calls for garlic powder and you have garlic salt on hand, just don't add extra salt as the recipe may call for.
