Can you get food poisoning from eating food that's left out?!

Question: When I was little I remember always seeing on the News not to eat leftover foods that were sitting out. I always seen this around Christmas and Thanksgiving.
But since I seen it years and years in a row, it basically got stuck into my head that you will get food poisoning if you eat food that was sitting on the stove for a few hours, or in the fridge for a few days.

My boyfriend sometimes asks me to eat with them, and by the time I get there the food is cold and sitting on the stove. I refuse to eat it because I don't want food poisoning.

Any website links that says otherwise would be great..

I worked at Panera Bread for a little while, and they stress the Danger Zone for foods very heavily.

I can't remember the exact numbers, but what the previous answerer said about the C is very close.
6C = about 43F Foods (especially things like sandwich meats) should be stored in areas no higher than this temperature.
60C = about 140F Foods should be stored no cooler than this temperature.

The temperatures in between are the Danger Zone for any foods, and that's when bacteria can develop.

But, developing food poisoning from foods being left out for only a few hours is very unlikely- I eat stuff left out/in the fridge like that quite often, and am fine.

four hours on the counter is long enough if the sun hits it less time or you can get sick.

Then you should do the cooking.

3 hours out of the fridge, and 4 days in the fridge......MAX!, unless you're talking pickles or catsup, etc.

if you leave the food out side for more than 20 min the bacteria well grow in your food actually the food sholdn t be in the danger zone 4c to 60c

It is usually high temperatures that spoil food quickly and that when they start to have bacteria in them. It depends too on what is being made and how they store it for you. If it is for a few hours, then better they put it in the fridge and you can warm it up again in microwave.

yes.
