Toss your freshly cooked popcorn in a bowl with that melted butter to evenly distribute it, that will prevent the mushy-ness. And, that way, you can also use less! When I over butter my popcorn I throw in some cocoa powder to soak up the extra butter and get an extra kick of flavor! Or, if that doesn't suit your fancy, any dry flavor addition you fancy could soak up that butter too! Happy Popping!

This is a bit more work but you could try spraying it on the popcorn and tossing it all around. Put the melted butter in a little spray bottle you get just for that purpose. You can also buy "I can't believe its not butter" in a spray to use on popcorn.

It sounds like you are using whipped butter or margarine with water added. Make sure it is a real cube of 100% butter and you pout it evenly.

Make sure the butter is not too hot and be sure to have the popcorn in a very large wide bowl. "Sprinkle" the butter around while tossing around the popcorn. Usually works for me.

its the milk fat in the butter when you melt butter the two separate the milk fat will settle to the bottom and just use the clarified butter that is left on top and no more soggy popcorn

OK melt the butter first...then give it a min or two before you pour it on your popcorn

put just a little on it
