Why is mahi-mahi called 'mahi-mahi,' and not just 'mahi'?!

Question: Did the one who named this particular fish have a stutter, or did he just enjoy hearing himself talk? Another reason?

Thanks!

It still doesn't answer the question. Maybe this is sort of like the saying "a Man's man". Maybe this is a Fish's Fish. Or maybe it was named by a 2 year old. Or maybe it's just easier than calling it Coryphaena hippurus. When I was a kid we just called it "Dorado".

because it's twice the mahi flavor.......

no friggin clue.

A stuttering fish? : )

Idk, Idk.
