Are homemade smoothies as good for you as eating regular fruit?!
Answers: I dont eat enough fruit. Im trying to eat more. Is pulping fruit into a smoothie as good as eating fruit the regular way? Smoothies seem a cheats way to eat fruit. Is there a downside to smoothies. Im thinking fibre, loosing nutriente ets.
As long as you don't JUICE the fruits in a juicer, then you are not losing any fiber or nutrients. Putting fruit in a blender with some ice, milk, or yogurt will not cause any loss in fiber or nutrients, because the blender does not discard anything like a juicer does. So no worries!! Drinking smoothies is a smart choice because it is an excellent way to increase your intake of fruits.
In a smoothie you don't lose anything
You don't lose any nutrients as long as you drink it straight away. A smoothie is a great way to eat extra fruit, just don't add sugar or sweeteners.
Doesn't lose any nutrition my friend its just as good as the real thing :o)
As long as you are using fresh fruit and not the tinned stuff
Pulping your fruit before you eat it doesn't affect it's nutritional qualities. Adding sugar and water does.
You wouldn't loose anything but be careful what you add because that will add calories.
Smoothies are just as good for you as fruit. If you leave the peal on, e.g. with apples or pears, then you don't loose any nutriants or vitamins.
Also they are good for you because you can mix lots of fruit together and therefore end up "eating" even more fruit :)
Just don't mix them with ice cream - that would be too good. Yoghurt's ok or plain ice cubes.
Tasty luck to you :)
Fruit is fruit - no matter how much you pulse it in a food processor. I mean, chopping can't chemically alter anything!
They're almost just as good. Don't add sweeteners. Use low-fat yogurt (regular yogurt is chock-full of sugar). Leave edible skins on (pears, apples, etc.) You won't lose fiber or nutrients if you put the same amount of fruit in that you would eat. (I usually do 1 banana, plus 1 other fruit of my choice.) One downside is that since you're breaking up the fruit, your teeth aren't getting the same amount of exercise.
The basic recipe is 2 parts fruit, 1 part yogurt, 1 part ice and a big splash of juice. If you buy frozen fruit, you might not need the ice, but you want the ice because it makes it cold. (My blender's weak, so I have to crush the ice before adding the other ingredients.)
You are still eating the fruit, just in a different form, so yes, it is as good as eating regular. Far better to take fruit this way if you prefer it to eating just a bit of fruit.
