If a Tomato is a Fruit , then why is it always in the vegetable section in a greengrocers ?!

Question: Because it is a fruit that is commonly used as a vegetable.

Answers: Because it is a fruit that is commonly used as a vegetable.

just to boggle the minds of those who know no better it's actually a meat , hunted daily by thugs like me

Because we have known it as a vegetable longer than we have known it was a fruit. Same goes to advocados, peppers, and various other vegetable fruits.

although it is a fruit it is the most widely used in cooking mostly associated with many vegetables.

Same reason you can buy red things in a greengrocer.

Do you not find other fruits and vegetable in that section?
We call that section produce.

because its not a fruit. oranges are fruit tomatoes are not.

No for the millionth time LOOK in the dictionary
It is provided by Yahoo up on the TOOL bar
called Reference
you click it - - click dictionary and type tomato...

Please learn to use your Yahoo services..

A Tomato is a fruit because it has seeds! They put it in the vegetable aisle because that were it always has been and they don't want to confuse u!

because most people are stupid and dont know that it is a fruit so it may reduce slaes if it is in the wrong place.

For the same reason that rhubarb is in the fruit section.
