Could I get sick from this?!

Question: O.K. so i bought Cashew Butter from Trader Joes and it said to refrigerate it after opening, when I got home about a week ago I tried some and then put it in the cupboard not thinking that it would need to be in the refrigerator, just like peanut butter. Well I ate some today for lunch turned the label and saw it said to put in the fridge after opening, so am I gonna get sick form this??

The reason it needs to be kept refrigerated is because it is made without additives. Refrigeration simply prevents it from turning rancid. In plain dealings, if it tasted and looked alright, you'll be fine.

Depends on the ingredients; is there anything in it that NEEDS to be refrigerated? I personally don't always put stuff in the fridge that states "needs to be refrigerated", as I think they only do that to cover themselves..... Also, I reckon you'd already feel sick if it was "bad".

As long as it tasted and smelled ok, you're probably fine. The reason they usually tell you to refrigerate, at least with the Cashew Butter is that there aren't any preservatives so the oils can go rancid quickly. If everything's ok (both you and the smell/taste of the Cashew Butter), I would say you could just stick it in the fridge and keep eating it.

I don't think that you would get sick but I would not eat anymore of it because it might make you sick if you continue eating that jar just get a new jar of it and put it in the fridge.

(dito what everyone else said)
plus: oil spoils! cashews have oil, plus it contains safflower oil. it's just like peanut butter, though. don't keep it out too long. the chill just lengthens its shelf life.

You should be fine.
