Deli Meat and Cheese vs Packaged Meat and Cheese?!
Any info besides how there shipped, processed, length of time...And of course taste.

Answers: So what is the real difference between the two? Is the deli meat more fresher and taste better than the packaged ones? Same with cheese? It's always pondered on my mind, why a market would have BOTH DELI AND PACKAGED...( Obviously for preference and variety, but just womdering if theres any real difference )

Packaged meat and cheese have a lot more preservatives to allow them to be kept longer and usually have a lot more salt (sodium) in them. Deli cuts - aka fresh cold cuts - are better for you compared to the packaged kind. Additionally the packaged kind use more meat scraps and formed into loafs where the deli cut is the real thing.
The deli meat is probably fresher because the packaged ones are shipped! Yummy! =P
Deli meats and packaged meats, as well as cheeses, are processed differently. Deli ham, for example, will be a higher grade of ham whereas packaged will probably contain a higher number of additives and water product. If you can spring for Deli, Deli is always better.

I only know that the packaged ones stay fresh longer.I don't think they taste better, though.
It is more flavorful and fresh. Exactly why I buy it. You can also get it sliced to the thickness you like and only have to buy the amount you need.

Both are probably shipped but I think the differences are in the quality of the cut of meat or grade of cheese and the fact that not as many preservatives need to be added. The deli meats and cheeses are not kept as long and they are not cut until you order. They retain more freshness because of this. I usually will spring for deli meat and only buy my cheese in a block. We are lucky to have a very good cheese company nearby.
