Answers: mutton... old sheep

sheep are animals which breed mutton, this is why we eat mutton as if we eat all the sheep then we will wont be left with any...

For the same reason that you buy beef and not cattle, pork and not pigs.

Mutton IS sheep meat. It's like saying beef instead of cow meat. We don't say "old cow meat." It's more appealing to the ears to say beef. We don't say "pig," either. It's pork. My theory is that it separates the "animal" quality from the food.

idk

mutton are sheep raised strictly for the fleece -+ when they become to old they are slaughtered -.. there meat is a bid strong tasting and gamy =
you don,t go to the butcher and say - "" 0NE pound of sheep please "" ==
that,s ranch talk -== you say lamb .
sounds more refined ,.

Marketing....
and the public acceptance
Of course the butcher plays an important part in naming certain cuts..
Fish mongers have many names for each fish, shark or ray..
I love the Monk fish..
named because it is not kosher (it is a Ray,, no scales) and they would donate any to the Monastery Monks)
