Is the Kraft mac & cheese in the box, any good after the expiration date?!

Question: I 'm staying with mom for a couple of months and notice that she has a bunch of box stuff in the pantry that expired. Mac & cheese, rice-a-roni, muffin mix. These have and expiration of like 12/18/07. Is this good to eat? She claims she doesn't cook since she lives alone and all her children are gone. Yep, came back for financial reason, won't be here long though. I hate to see this food go to waste. Is it bad?

A The “sell by” or “pull” date tells the store how long to display the food for sale. Foods eaten after this date are generally safe as long as they are not stored for longer than the recommended time and that they are handled and prepared safely. Muffin mix is recommended to be stored no longer than nine months and should be kept in a cool, dry place.

I wouldn't eat ANY food after the expiration date (not that that stuff is good for you any time). But I suppose a few months after expiration would be okay for non-perishable type foods. I live alone, and would never eat prepared foods. Mom should think more of herself and prepare nice meals. I cook better now than I ever did... and enjoying it more.

ur fine...as long as theres no bugs in the pasta box.

If it is the powdered cheese type then the cheese mix may have solidified into a block rather than a powder. You can crush it back into a powder and it should be fine. The pasta part of the mix can get stale and when it is cooked it will fall apart very easily. Other than this they should be fine. Dry foods are usually good for a while after the expiration date.

My rule is: if it smells good then it IS good

I wouldn't eat any of it even if it was not expired. It's mostly all chemicals.

i dont think any thing past the expiration date is bad. but thats just me . it depends on will you eat it or not

I can't imagine kraft dinner or boxed food like that ever going bad...
