I ate bread thats 18 days past expiration date. Will I get sick?!
Answers: So, before you make fun of me for being a moron and eating nasty old bread, let me explain: I had grilled some hamburger meat, and put them on my bread. I ate it, and didn't realize until afterwards that the bread was 18 days past expiration. You see, I accidentally ate from the wrong loaf (i had just bought a new loaf the other day) that I didn't throw away... Anyways, I thought I would be fine, because it didn't taste noticably nasty. However, the bread was quite moist, and I thought it was because of the juices from the meat. I checked the rest of the loaf of bread, and inside many portions of the bread were moist as well. None was discolored though. Anyways, should I expect to get sick from this?
Nah, you'll be fine. The moisture was probably from water getting into the back, or the beginnings of breakdown. Yes, you ate decomposing bread, but hey, people have eaten worse.
I think you'll live.
No..no mold so you won't get sick.
No, the expiration date is just put there for security reasons, and unlike other foods like dairy that the expiration date MUST be watched closely because the day of it being expired it may be bad.
BUT! bread on the other hand isnt like that... as long as theres no mold or anything you will BE FINE!
The expiration date is just the "Sell by" date to guarantee the bread is still fresh. Depending on the type of bread it can last much longer than that. As long as it hasn't dried out or is moldy, I always eat bread well past the date.
