Anyone else out there addicited to soda?!

Question: I swear, I am always trying to give it up, but it is very hard to do. I drink at least two cans of soda a day, and barely get any water in (except for the water I make myself drink at lunch). I used to be addicted to diet soda, but switched to regular when I was pregnant and never went back. The thing is, I know it's not a caffeine issue, because I am allergic and only drink decaf sodas. What is it about this bubbly drink that has such a hold over people?

Anyway, I am going to try to go cold turkey today. Any tips or suggestions on how not to crack? Thanks!

yes, ma'am, that is me, lol. I do drink lots and lots of water though. But I drink pop every day. My favorites are coke, which I really have because I get pretty wired. The ones I have in my house right now are diet, caffine-free coke, and cream soda:):)

mm... want a pop now.

If you want to stop, I suggest getting water bottles (the 500mL) and those individual Chyrstal Lights. They are so fun! You make your juice right in the bottle. They have tons of flavors and they are good! I did that when I was pregnant.

I was pretty hooked for a long time myself, nothing but soda for lunch and dinner. Soda pretty much hooks you using at least one of three things, the caffeine, the carbonation, or the sugar. Since you don't think it's the caffeine, it's probably the sugar. Switch to fruit drinks. The natural sugars in their are healthier than the artificial stuff in sodas. Instead of cans of soda, I now have a can of juice with my meals. I'm now on the wagon and it's been about 2 years. Just so you know, it can be done. Good luck.

It's the sugar. Once you ingest sugar, it sets you up to crave more. Make yourself some iced tea with lemon (or carbonated water with lime if it's the carbonation you like). Use a little Stevia and Splenda (combined) as sweeteners. They taste just like sugar, but won't set you up to crave more. After a while, you won't even crave the sugar.

Hi there, 2 cans you say, try a two litre bottle every single day, EVERY DAY!!! that went on for about 7 years, until i got REFLUX and irritable bowel syndrome, i tried everything to give it up but i was addicted to the caffeine, the thing that worked with me was switching to lemonade , solo, etc then on to iced cordial and i slowly stopped the cordial and kept on drinking iced water, its not going to be easy but you can do it, my partner only drank sprite , and tea, never just water, now she carries a water bottle everywhere, you can do it.

I had a friend that drank 12 to 15 cans of soda a day. When she was pregnant she still drank that much. When her baby was born they came in and started interrogating her about what kind of drugs she took while pregnant, they thought her daughter was a crack baby. She was addicted to Pepsi! They actually had to feed her Pepsi and ween her off it. Your body get used to what is in the soda and "needs" it. You will have with-drawl symptoms just like a drug addict but you can do it. Keep in ind that the carbonation in soda also make your bones very week and brittle so you'll be healthier without it. Good luck!!

It doesn't have a hold on me. I very rarely drink soda. When I do it is usually a sprite. Since you are allergic to caffeine I would suggest decaf coffee with sugar in it to get you off the soda.

Yea me, I am a mountain dew feen. Water is like medicine to me, it tastes awful.
