I used to eat a lot of yogurt?!
Answers: i usually eat lots of yogurt cus i thought it was healthy but then i looked at the nutrition facts thing and there is soooo much sugar in it and i havent been able to eat it since, is it like natural sugar stuff or is it just regular crap sugar? should i keep eating lots of yogurt?
Yogurt can definitely still be classified as a health food, if you choose the right kind. That's why it's good that you are reading the Nutrition Facts label - in general, a longer ingredient list can mean more calories and fillers.
The problem is that there is such a variety of yogurt products to choose from today and most of them have added sugar. The trick is to find a product with less than 5g of sugar per oz (i.e. less than 20g of sugar per 4 oz or 30g of sugar per 6 oz). Avoid yogurt with added fruit toppings - this is where you're going to find added sugar. Look for lower fat and low sugar. Some of the Dannon "pie" yogurts are low-fat and low in sugar,
Or get plain yogurt that contain only sugars that are the naturally occurring milk sugars - your getting all of the good nutrients and health benefits that yogurt has to offer.
Well, sugar is natural...
Try plain yogurt and adding your own fruit.
Naturally yogurt is not sweet. However, the naturally occurring bacteria is good for your digestive system and for women, it has alot of benefits. Some of the commercial yogurts have alot of additives (artifical and natural) and sugar or artifical sweeteners. You can buy organic yogurt that does not have these additives, and they contain much less sugar. Or you can buy unsweetened and sweeten it yourself. Many of the organic yogurts also contain fiber unlike the commercial ones. I like Stoneyfield Farms and Brown Cow yogurts.
There is sugar free yogurt - the lite kind. Sugar is natural, and in moderation not really unhealthy. Yogurt has lots of health benefits because of the calcium and because of the friendly bacteria in it. I eat yogurt almost every day. I think you should eat yogurt. The good outweighs the bad.
It's not so much the yogurt, but the fruit flavoring that's added. You can either get a light yogurt or plain yogurt and add fresh fruit. Just check through all the brands to compare.
i love light yogurt and i feel its a lot healthier then a lot of things i could be eating...i guess moderation would be the key :)
