no he's not having a laugh, i just LOOOVE battered chips! there are very few fish and chip shops left that do them, but i still used to have them up until i moved house last year. they have not got one in my new area.. damm! if your son knows anywhere where they still do them, ask him to get some and try them, they are delicious! oh, and ask him to get me a bag too!!

we had a pis sed up conversation about batted chips down the pub yesterday, i thought they were taking the pee . i never heard of them before, now again today, might just try them.....

I reckon its a generic name for chips with a crispy coating. If they were covered in real batter they'd just be little fritters/hash browns wouldn't they?

No I haven't but the chip shop near me sells battered burgers so you never know!

There's a chip shop down here in Paignton that sells their chips with some batter on it, although not completely covered in the stuff, but it gives them an amazing crunchy crust.

My theory is that when they batter the fish , they let the excess batter drip over the raw chips prepared to be fried.

yes you can get frozen battered chips at Tesco, haven't tried them though,.

The lad is correct there really are battered chips They are called scallops (but made of spuds not shellfish) and you get them in Manchester They are big flat slices of potato deep fried in the same batter that goes on fish Try one today at a chippy near you Tasty

you can batter just about anything! I've seen a battered hamburger fully prepared! It was on Diners Drive-ins and Dives on Food Network....looked awsome!

battered chips have been around since the 60's although
the 'taters' are usually sliced like scallops so they retain the batter better, but because of the potato's water content the batter is quite thin; the battered chip your son is probably referring to is a fairly new innovation in that the chip is shaped like a normal chip instead of a scallop (scollop) this is
due to improvements in batter technology so it sticks better.

I think they will be like fritters.

fritter on a roll=lovely!

no i have never tried battered chips :) but i want to now, the chippy by me do potato battered scollops and are sooooo gud with lots of salt and vinegar!!
