Am I the only one who cannot deal with (spicy)HOT foods?!

Question: I can't use hot sauce, Chinese mustard, salsa (unless extremely mild), or anything that burns the mouth, throat and stomach.
Maybe it's because I grew up in a New York neighborhood at a time where people ate rather traditional foods. BTW, I love Chinese, German and Italian foods...but other than that it's pretty much American.

Well, I'm the guy that drank all "the" food coloring for "the" green beer. I kind of like mild food now.

I dont think it has anything to do with race i am australian and have an irish background and i also cannot stand anything spicy it makes me feel uncomfortable and sweaty and i full stop hate it.

I used to be like that up until I was 21-22, now at 30 I love spicy foods, maybe it's an acquired thing.

heart burn kills. if I eat anything spicy I end up going through the same volume of pepto as the spicy food

no..I'm in the same situation...I mean I hate spicy food

I can't handle spicy foods either. I'm an Australian with an Italian background, and spicy food is popular in Italy but I've never been able to eat it. I guess it's just how people are and how much spice they can handle. Some people can eat spicy food all day everyday and some people get sick if they even take a bite of a spicy food. It's really up to us how much we can deal with :)

I don't like REAL spicy foods either. Like you, I like the mild version of hot sauces as in Brunswick Stew. I do like salsa. Some people can eat hot sauce and it doesn't bother them. I've never had chinese mustard so i can't comment. A lot of restaurants have hot sauce sitting on the table as a extra condiment but it is not added to the food.

I don't do hot foods. A friend makes some stuffed jalapenos that if I take just a TINY taste (about the size of a baby aspirin), my mouth is on fire forever!
I love mexican food, but don't use any hot sauce on it.

"Hot" like "beauty" is in the eye of the beholder but, even though I'm Hispanic, I don't handle hot salsa very well. My Dad was altogether the other end of the spectrum. Mom would make really hot stuff for him and he'd sit with a towel in his lap like a napkin so he could wipe the sweat off his brow as he ate the mega-hot stuff.

Me, I had to live here in New Mexico years before I shed my Kansas eating habits and started eating jalepenos and such.

Wasabi, the Chinese hot mustard, etc. are great and I enjoy them... as well as traditional horseradish sauce.

But everything in moderation....

Due to a stomach condition I can only eat those that are relatively mild.
