Is it true that if you thaw meat out & then refreeze it being uncooked, then you're @ risk for E. coli?!

Question: I was rushing one day, & I had a BIG bag of chicken leg quarters. I feel bad because I forgot to separate them. My friend's boyfriend went in my freezer yesterday to get some ice, & he called me stupid & said that what I did was NOT smart. Then, he asked, "How u gon' cook all 'lat chicken? Huh? It's gonna have to go to waste. Very stupid! Not smart @ all." (Demanding an answer for MY personal business).

I feel like a naughty kid. It was an accident, & I forgot. & me & him got into an argument about it. & then my friend handled up on him about it later. I'M the only one gotta eat that chicken. He's not obligated to eat it. I spent MY funds on that. I live alone. He's lucky I allowed him there.

I don't know what type of bacteria it is but there is a risk from refreezing meat. What you can do it take it out and you will be able separate a few out without defrosting them. You may have more than you want that are stuck together but that is OK you can just cook a little more. Stick the rest back in the freezer and do the same the next time. They will not go to waste.

IDEA #2: unthaw them all, freeze them again and then feed them to your friend's lame-butted boyfriend.

you should NEVER re-freeze meat, its well dodgy!

Yes anytime you have raw food you are at risk, also not only are you at a higher risk for e. coli but also for many other bacteria just toss the meat. Also the way you thaw the meat is a big deal. The only 3 ways to thaw are from best to worst

1.) in the fridge just let it sit in there until done
2.) under RUNNING cold water
3.) during cooking

Actually, e.coli lives in the gut (stomach, intestines, anus) of humans or mammals. You are not likely to get it from chicken.

You ARE however at risk of salmonella poisioning, which is more common in chicken, and can grow to levels that harm humans when improperly thawed. So, yeah, you could end up making yourself very sick.

1) Is it worth being right and saving the $6 of YOUR OWN MONEY you spent on legs when you are doubled over puking or crapping your britches????

2) and not really pertaining to the question, but Is it worth feeding a low life so called boyfriend who berates you for being stupid, and wont chip in on groceries???

Well, you didn't say how you defrosted the chicken. Or did you yet? I'm not sure.

I don't recommend it necessarily, but -
If it was the proper temperature (below 40 degrees) when you bought it and you brought it home immediately and froze it...
Then thaw it in the refrigerator to the point where you can get them (the legs) apart without having them at room temperature for long. Repackage them in smaller portions (your goal I'm assuming) and back in the freezer.

You will probably survive and not be sick. FYI - Most grocery stores these days bring in much of the meat frozen and thaw it to sell then we take it home and refreeze it. It's not the process itself that makes it dangerous (although it does lower the quality of the meat), it is how it is done and at what temperatures.
