Would drinking 7-8 cups of Coffee a day make me gain weight?!

Question: I drink it quite strong, semi skimmed milk and 1 spoon of sugar.

Answers: I drink it quite strong, semi skimmed milk and 1 spoon of sugar.

I would say no. It should boost your metabolism and help you lose weight, as long as their isn't a danish with each of those cups of coffee.

Yeah but it's the sugar and the milk rather than the coffee

it wouldn't make you gain weight, but you would be wired for hours!

I take my hat off to you for dinking that much coffee, that amount would kill me!

The sugar content adds up to quite a few calories.

I have approx 9 cups of coffee a day - it's a natural dieuretic so you won't gain water retention but i'd cut out the sugar if i were you.

i think 7-8 is a bit too much but coffe does help you lose weight iv read! if u drink it half an hour b4 u exercise then u lose more calories.

Probably not. You might have caffiene withdrawls if you stop so I'd keep drinkin on.

You won't sleep much thats for sure

yes, the milk and the sugar are bad in that quantity

also caffeine increases pancreatic function which indirectly makes you put on more weight

cut the milk and sugar, and drink decaf coffee......as much as you like

Short answer yes - since you take it with milk and sugar you are almost certainly taking in calories - if you are gaining weight it is because you are taking on more calories than you are using (ignoring water retention, muscle mass increase etc). Caffeine can increase metabolic rate slightly but the calories negate this entirely. Maybe it's the doughnuts/danish/biscuits that go with the coffee...

Stop smoking and do some exercise.
You will start to retain more water.

No but coffee stunts your growth

not really, the sugar wouldn't be great though. Measure out 8 teaspoons of sugar onto a plate, would you eat that in one go?

You could try using a low cal sweetener instead.

Yes but it's the sugar, not the coffee.

Not if you eat and drink nothing else.

The coffee itself is calorie free, it's the milk and sugar that will make you gain weight.

Not on their own, but it depends what the rest of your diet is like, and how much you exercise.
With 8 cups of coffee, you should have plenty of energy to exercise regularly!
8 spoons of sugar is a lot, especially if it's not your only intake of sugar. Do you have sugary snacks? Or soda? Or desserts?
It's all about balance. The coffee itself won't hurt, but try using skimmed milk and a sweetner like Splenda or Canderell

it's the sugar.. so if your spoon is a tablespoon then I would omit sweets for the rest of the day, if it's a teaspoon, I would still watch your sugar intake. like junk, sweets, and too many carbs.. But I would imagine that you would be so wired, you would be able to work it off..
But I love me some coffee to!
just make sure you are drinking some water between each cup so you don't get a UTI

i drink a mug of coffee approx every 45 min with 2 spoons of suger and milk, i am slim ,talking about it is making me thirsty se you later............

Yes...the sugar & milk will make you gain weight.
If you are on a diet, you are not supposed drink coffee, it just makes you lose water weight because it's a diuretic.

It actually dehydrates you.

If you're trying to lose weight...take your weight, divide in 1/2 & that's how many ounces of water you ought to drink each day.

Can you sleep at night?

As long as you are using semi-skimmed milk that should be OK. But the sugar is another story. Let me show you how 7-8 spoons of sugar can add up.
In one level teaspoon, 16 calories and 4 grams of carbohydrate. One rounded is 1 1/2 tsp and 24 calories with 6 grams of carbohydrate.
Depending on how much sugar a spoonful is to you, you are averaging between 120 - 180 calories/day just in sugar alone. Depending on how much milk you add to your coffee, it can add between 80 - 120 calories/day to your diet. This is a total average of 200 - 300 calories/day to your diet, which may be quite a bit of extra calories. Try using skim milk with an artificial sweetener such as Splenda. I promise, you won't notice much of a difference, and you'll be adding alot less calories to your daily intake. It might be good to use decaf sometimes too because that much regular coffee will increase your heart rate and can cause heart palpitations and the jitters in some people. Keep an eye on your blood pressure!

That is 8 spoons of sugar plus the fat in the milk. Combined with your normal diet this could make you put on weight.

Not really but that amount is probably making you hyper.

USDA advises people who eat a 2,000-calorie healthful diet to try to limit themselves to about 10 teaspoons of added sugars per day. In fact, the average American does not eat a healthful diet, but consumes 20 teaspoons of added sugars per day. Plus carbohydrates turn in to sugar also.. Weight gain associated with sugars is very possible.

Not sure about that, but a cup of black (unsweetened) coffee after each meal is a fatburner.

I agree the coffee is flavored water so that is probably not bad unless you take it with cream and sugar.

you shouldn't drink that many cups of coffee per day!
