Answers: usually foods that are microwaved are unhealthy in general. Also, microwaves have rays that cause cancer, and the microwave also takes nutritional value out of foods.

Not because it's microwaved. But lots of instant microwave premade meals have unhealthy amounts of sugar., preservatives and/or fat. If you read the label carefully you can find out which are bad and which aren't.

It depends! It's not the act of microwaving that makes something unhealthy - it's what goes into the product.

The best way is to look on the back of the packet. If it has lots of preservatives, salt or sugar, as most ready-meals do, then it's pretty unhealthy.

But there are a lot of ready meals out there that are a bit healthier. You can buy these 'steam pot' dinners like salmon and potatoes that are completely fresh; they've just been packaged and seasoned ready for you to cook. The only ingredients would be salmon fillet, potatoes and then the ingredients for the seasoning or garnish.

But your usual £1 macaroni cheese won't be very healthy even if it tastes lovely hehe

It depends what you are microwaving- If you are microwaving fresh vegetables, etc, the fact that the microwave takes less time to cook will preserve the vitamins. The longer you cook vegetables, the more vitamins are destroyed. If you mainly use microwaves for cooking processed foods- then it is the processed foods which are unhealthey due to additives, increased salt, flavourings, etc. Microwaves are safe to use and will not harm you as long as you follow the manufacturers instructions.

Certainly not BECAUSE its microwaved, you could prepare a really healthy meal and microwave it the next day and it would still be as good for you.
The problem is that most convienience microwave ready meals contain far too much salt, sugar and emulsifiers and thats what makes them unhealthy, not the manner in which they are cooked.

no it is not

It took a while for family to convince me to get one even they bought it as I am all for the traditional oven. Still to this day it is just used for warming bread up or light food. I never cook anything in it. I have an instinct about those things.

On a regular scale I would definitely say yes.!

I've been cooking meals, cornbread ect with microwave for 18 yrs never gotten sick from it yet.
Burned tongue once or twice on hot food though lol.

No, why should it be, it`s only like an oven

Not because of the microwave.
What you are putting into the microwave is another matter.
If it's unhealthy when it comes out the chances are it was unhealthy when it went in.

No. We had only a microwave oven for about 20 years and cooked fresh food (never ready-meals) every day. Because we can't fry or roast in a microwave, our diet is much healthier than using conventional methods. It's quicker, for instance, an hour for a casserole (2-3 hours by gas or electric oven) with diced meat and fresh veg. The nutrients don't get cooked out of the food and less electricity is used so it's cheaper. Persist and learn a new way of cooking.
