Is it ok to put very warm food in the fridge?!

Question: I had a piece of fish leftover that I wanted to save, but couldn't leave it out too long because I was afraid the cat would get it. I left it out during the meal, but it was still pretty warm when I went to put it away. Is this ok - I've heard putting hot food in the fridge is bad.

No it's not a good idea to put any food in the frig hot. It needs to be lower than the holding temp, which is 145 degrees, so let it stand until its lower than that. If not you will be hosting a bacteria party in your frig. So warm food yes...under 145 degrees.

no it will lose the taste. anyhting dropping temparture too fast is not good.

If you cover the food, it will cause condensation to collect which will make it go bad faster.

yes...but not meats...
try cooling it for a while before putting it in the fridge...covered, of course.

you want to make sure that the food is somewhat cooled (not sure approx. temp it needs to get to) before storing to avoid harmful bacteria from forming.

Yes it is best to put it in hot. This eliminates time for bacteria to grow. In the OLD days it wasn't a good idea cause it would warm up the fridge and make the other food susceptible to going bad.

Stick it in the freezer for like 5 mins, this will cool it down but wont be long enough to freeze it, then put it in the fridge. Dont put warm or hot food in the fridge as it can iccrease the temp in there and cause other foods to spoil. Will be ok to do this in the freezer for like 5 mins tho, as this is allot colder than the fridge and probally will not make much difference to the temperature. xx

It is bad to put hot food in the fridge. Let it completely cool.

Yes you can put warm or hot food in the fridge. All is does is raise the temperature of the fridge a little and nothing will happen to the food as to taste or anything else. The old wives tale started back when there were ice boxes, and the hot food would make the ice melt faster than normal...
