Is this spinach still okay?!
The leaves are all crisp, they're not withered, they're all green and there's no bad odor or slime or residue or anything weird. Honestly they look fresh as ever. Can I still use them? And when will I know when they're just too far gone to keep using - aside from waiting until they visibly look nasty? Thanks :)
Answers: I bought a big plastic container of organic spinach because it was on sale at the store - it's a pound of spinach leaves. Anyway, the SELL BY DATE is March 12 - meaning, it's 3 days past the sell by date but I haven't used it all up yet! It's honestly a heck of a lot of spinach.

You can still use it.
It was labeled SELL BY MARCH 12
which is totally different to "USE BY"
Grocers give it a sell and use date with consideration to storage.
An inedible spinach would be obvious.
If still in doubt, soak it in water with a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice for two minutes. Strain away the water to dry, wrap in paper towels then back into the fridge. The lemon juice slows down the oxidation process.
Its fine. The expiration date dosent mean its bad. From what your explaining, it's still fresh as can be. Even when the leaves get a little withered, I just pick them out and toss them away and cook the rest.
When they start getting slimy, then it's time to get rid of it.
Also remember that when you saute spinach you end up with about 1/4 of what it looked like raw. So what looks like alot may be enough for just a small dish.
Yes i would use it
but first i would give it a wash
and add dash of vinegar to the water in a bowl to get rid of any unwanted insect
If the leaves are still crispy and they're not wilted, slimy or
turned bad, then it's still good to use. However, I would the
rest of the spinach asap, because it won't keep very much
longer.
The leaves contain the chlorophyll which green color to spinach. The testing of its decay is - once it turns to black color it is not good . Even then there is no harm because it is natural and nature of any kind does not harm our body or organ due biochemistry and no biological changes occur in the body due to same ingredients. If it is in organic, like any chemical it affects to the tissues of the body. Nothing to worry about its date. The country men, are cutting and keeping aside of the field in the water for days together and using after many days . For precaution, take Luke warm water, add some salt in it and clean it , so it will be bacteria free. Congratulation for being vegetarian and vegan.
