Will cooking Corned beef and cabbage in a crock pot be ok or should i only do it on the stove?!

Question: I have to work 6 hours tomorrow. I bought corned beef and cabbage yesterday at the grocery store so i can make it on st patricks day. (I LOVE THE STUFF)

Will it be alright if I cook it all in the crock pot? Or should I just cook the potatoes, carrots and meat in the crock pot and when i get home, toss the cabbage in there for a little bit?

Yes. You can do it in a crock pot, on the stove or in your oven. I like to cook my corned beef the day before and then take the liquid I cooked the meat in and de-fat it. You do this by straining it through a fine mesh strainer lined with cheese cloth. Then you put it in the fridge overnight and remove the fat-cap the next day.

I cook my potatoes, carrots and cabbage in the liquid. Its good to have the meat done a day ahead because it is easier to trim all the fat off and slice it.

I then boil the potatoes first, then when they have about 12 minutes left, I add the carrots. When both are done I add the cabbage and sliced meat. They only require about 2 or 3 minutes in the hot liquid. I then put everything together in bowl and ladle the liquid over the top and serve it like stew.

I would leave the cabbage out until the last little bit. it might cook away otherwise.

Yes, on slow it will work great.

A crock pot will work just fine. I love the stuff too!

Here is the recipe I use Hope it helps

CROCK POT CORNED BEEF AND CABBAGE

Place in crock pot in order:

3 carrots, cut in 3 inch pieces
3-4 lb. corned beef brisket
2-3 med. onions, quartered
1-2 c. water
1/2 sm. cabbage, cut in wedges

Add cabbage to liquid, pushing down to moisten, after 6 hours on low or 3 hours on high. Cover and cook 10-12 hours on low, 5-6 hours on high.
To prepare more cabbage, cook separately in skillet. Remove 1 cup of broth from crock pot during last hour of cooking. Pour over cabbage wedges in skillet. Cover and cook 20-30 minutes.
