When did a half gallon of ice-cream become 46 oz?!

Question: I dont buy ice cream often (ok, like every few years would be more exact) and I know the price of food has gone up lately.....do you think they just made the container smaller instead of raising the price tag (but still effectively raising the cost by quite a bit)

Anyone know when they did this?

Just curious

Actually, the ice cream cartons around here (Ohio) are 56 oz. instead of the 1/2 gallon containers. I agree with you that they reduced the size so they didn't have to raise the prices as much. I started seeing the smaller cartons a couple years ago, but now all the brands I see are the 56 oz. containers.
