Have you (or anyone you know) ever been electricuted by sticking a knife or fork in the toaster?!
Answers: I do it all the time, no worries, just recently heard that it is dangerous, is this true??
lol
I used to do it all the time too, until my grandmother saw me one day and went mental - shouting about how I was going to get myself killed... not sure if it's true but I definitely haven't done it since lol
I've heard of that too, but I've never seen it happen. I use plasticware when I have to get toast out just in case. I think you have to hit a heating element with the knife while it's plugged in. But I'm not going to find out if I can help it.
<grammar snob on> If i'd been electrocuted, I'd be dead... thats what electrocuted means <grammar snob off> seriously, i've stuck a fork in the toaster to get bread out and nothing ever happened... just unplug the thing first!
uh......nope!
Toasters like clothes irons have a high density of power due to the internal element design. However modern fuse boards are designed to take the shock where a heated metal element is openly exposed to extraneous 'foreign' metal objects. So putting a metal object such as a knife in a toaster and where it actually touches the heater element while it is heating will first cause a power supply cut and the fuse board will have to be reset. This is the reason why toasters have an outer metal guard around the heater element to protect you from burns and possible electric shock. If however the fuse is reset and held in place while the metal object is held in your hand inside the heating toaster you will certainly receive a dangerous electric shock which depending on your general health could prove fatal.
oh wow... I was JUST doing that and wondering why you're not supposed to. nothing has ever happened to me from it... it makes me wonder if there is actually a chance...
OMG!!!!!!!!
i always freakin do it and everytime i do i think
"damn...one false move and im toast!!!!"
i just did it this morning. im sure u can get electrocuted cuz the knife/fork is metal or what not so i think we should stop.
or....just unplug the toaster b4 sticking the fork in. i think ill do that...
You know, I think you can get wooden tongs for the specific use of getting stuff out of the toaster. I can't believe you all have NEVER heard of the possibility of getting shocked by sticking metal in the toaster.
When I was 8, I accidentally stuck my hand inside the toaster (to push the bread because it was not totally inside). ZAP! I need not do it again with a knife.
When I was about 10 I decided to see for myself, so stuck a knife in a toaster when it was on. It went bang, and while I did not get electrocuted I did get a huge fright and the toaster was toast! Whether the fact the knife I used had a non-metal handle saved me, I don't know, but it is something I will never do again, nor would I recommend doing it to anybody else!
Basically, if toast gets stuck in a toaster, switch the thing off at the mains before attempting to get the toast out with something. It is better to be safe than sorry.
