I had roast chicken for dinner and my dad roasted and basted it in butter but I was just wondering how much?!

Question: butter do you think actually soaks in to the chicken? I'm counting calories so I need to know how many calories for butter I should add. I didn't eat any of the skin btw.

I know that when food is fried most calorie counts add 10% of calories coming from oil they're cooked in, but on doing research on your question, I was not able to get any consistent numbers. I figure if skin isn't eaten, that takes away most of the butter that was used, so figure on adding maybe 2-5% of total calories from butter, depending on how much you used. Hope that helps.

why add butter the bird has plenty of grease to baste it in

if you're not going to eat the skin, dont bother putting butter on it. It's most likely ALOT of butter to soak the whole chicken, if your health concious, dont even bother.

About 75 calories in a tablespoon. But if you didnt eat the skin you got hardly any. Why would some on soak a chicken in butter. I'd stop eating your Dads cooking if I were you.

ick not my cup of tea....the butter soaks in throughout the whole chicken and absorbs lots of calories from this. Just stay away!

well if he basted every 15 mins to 1/2 hr
was the ckn jucie or a little dry
thats how u tell
if real jucie then start counting
if mildly dry only a little juice
then do not worry

Your Dad understands how to cook a bird. Why not enjoy a little bit and stop bothering with the fat. Have lots of vegies to make a meal and enjoy the pleasures of dining.

I BELIEVE BASTING IS SO THE SKIN GETS NICE AND CRISPE.SO NO SKIN FOR YOU..YOU SHOULD BE OK
