What are the differences between pasta types?!

Question: Do different pastas taste different (i.e.: bow tie vs. shells)? What makes certain recipes pick a type? To me, it tastes the same, but there are obviously cosmetic reasons why you'd want a certain type of pasta. I guess texture is another reason.

Another reason is that each pasta holds sauce and spices differently. The only kind of pasta that would taste different is the pasta made from spinach or tomato's.

I agree that they mostly taste the same... by the time you get sauce on it, you only taste the sauce anyway!

The ones with ridges on them are supposed to hold the sauce better. Bite-size shapes are better for salads, like macaroni salad. Large pastas (like shells) are meant to be stuffed. Enjoy!

ive trie all sorts of pasta and ur right, they all taste the same. but, they are refering to the type of shell not the taste. recipes give u a suggestion, its up to u to use that or whatever u would like, its just a way to describe all shapes n sizes.

you might think taste the same with the sauce, but every each pasta has different texture... when you chew those different pasta make it lots of difference with suace. its the texture and shape make difference in taste.

thats what i heard.. i am no professional either.

it all tastes the same as far as whole wheat to regular theres like a hugh difference but as far a the shape. i gues it is kind of odd but i want certain txtures certain times, i think most people prefer different pasta not the same one all the time
