How do cinemas justify charging high prices for snacks?!
a family bag of mm's costs 99p at my local newsagent and £2.60 at the cinema.
Answers: i took my son last week and paid £6.10 for 1 small popcorn and 1 small coke. surely this is blatent overpricing, espiecially as you cannot (or are not supposed to) take your own.

It's called a controlled economy. There's a captive market and the price charged is what that market will stand. For as long as there are people prepared to pay £2.60, why should they sell for 99p? Smuggle in a suitcase of m&ms and set up a rival outlet at £2.30.
They don`t need to justify anything,,they just like to rip you off,,,
Absolute rip off, apparently that's where they make there most money and the film ticket just about covers costs. Shame because going to the cinema used to be a relatively affordable family outing.
They don't need to justify it, - the people buying at inflated prices are tacitly approving.
Hey why dont you do this......BRING YOUR OWN GRUBB!!!!
They have a captive audience, and can charge what they like. It's discraceful.
Always fill your coat pockets with bags of M&M's bought from the shop over the road. No-one will ever know.
How do big cinema's justify charging £7 to see a film!! total rip off!
a trip to the cinema is very expensive nowadays....even with free tickets (Orange Wednesday)
My friend is the a general manager of a movie theater and she told me that the revenue of the theater comes from the concession stand. The revenue created by the movie tickets go to the people and production of the movie and none of it to the theater.
because so many people bring in thier own snacks, the theater is forced to inflate prices, inorder to keep the business thriving
If people didn't buy it, they would not be able to sell it at that price.
Eat just before you go to the cinema and buy less at the kiosk.
Cinemas are a rip off..
I always bring my own snacks.. I always buy a bag of chips, and a drink. They cant stop me.
I dont go to the cinema anymore. I prefer to watch movies at home. .I'm not paying $11 for a movie that i can get on dvd over a counter for $6
I know it is a joke! I always pop into Sainsburys (next door) and grabmy sweets, drink or whatever beforehand. Ive never been stopped.
I also dont understand the prices they charge per person to watch the film. It works out cheaper for my family to get the DVD (usually out a few months later too) and watch it at home.
That is where their profit comes from and why we sneak our own food into the cinema.
It's because they have a local monopoly.
Supply and demand. You demanded it and they supplied it. If everyone refused to buy the stuff the price would eventually come down.
